Magpie is a self taught artist from the South Coast who spent 7 years of his early life in the army leaving when he was 24.
Before the army, life started with being adopted and early on Magpie had the will to draw and create. Magpie was 5 when his parents separated and his mothers new partner was a drinker who would covertly torment him, this behavior was soon normalised and he would tell Magpie things like 'I wasn't in my real family' and 'this isn't your real mum' and 'no one would ever care about me'. Magpie's creativity was quashed early on.
Only a few years ago, Magpie was days away from giving up on his passion to create and finally met his lowest point ending up with two Councillors. During his treatment, Magpie found art again. Art was a way of coping and it wasn't long before people were asking to purchase his artwork. Things grew over time and Magpie was gaining recognition worldwide including a future work trip in the Caribbean planned in.
Magpie builds depth and layers in all his pieces, using a mixture of mediums with a punky, raw feel. Magpie's inspiration comes from everything and anything; music, nature, films, posters and clothing, you name it.
